Ahmedabad: The state govt on Monday announced the setting up of 16 new govt colleges and the introduction of new academic streams in eight existing colleges in the coming days. The govt will also fill around 117 teaching and non-teaching posts across these institutions.Govt officials also specified the number of vacancies to be filled in each college, with the recruitment process expected to begin soon.There have been repeated demands for new govt colleges, as no new institutions were sanctioned in recent years. Addressing these concerns, the govt made the announcement during the state Budget session, granting approval for new colleges in both tribal and non-tribal areas.In Ahmedabad, a new arts, commerce and science college will be set up in Hathijan. Similarly, new colleges will be established in non-tribal areas, including Khanpur, Una, Dhanera, Maliya, Ranpur, Dahegam and Gadhshisha. In tribal regions, new colleges have been approved for Banaskantha, Valsad, Mahisagar, Dahod and Chhota Udepur districts, along with two in Surat and one in Navsari.The govt has also approved new academic streams in two existing colleges in non-tribal areas. The sanctioned posts include principal, assistant professor, librarian, clerk, senior clerk, lab assistant, junior clerk and peon.The Hathijan college alone will have 11 posts, including four assistant professors. Notably, 13 peon posts across the institutions will be filled through outsourcing. The govt also announced that prior experience as an assistant professor will be considered under the new recruitment rules.
