Ahmedabad: The Satellite police have registered an offence against a DJ operator for allegedly violating noise pollution norms during a marriage procession near Manekbaug late on Saturday night.According to the complaint, a wedding procession moved through Manekbaug Society near Shreyas Tekra at around 10.30pm, with loud music blaring from mounted sound equipment on a vehicle. The music was allegedly played at high volume on a public road without obtaining the necessary permission, in breach of an order issued by the Ahmedabad police commissioner regulating the use of loudspeakers and amplified sound across the city.Police sources said the matter came to light after a communication was received from senior officials referring to a pending matter before the Gujarat high court concerning noise pollution. It was pointed out that although a call had been made to the 112 emergency helpline and police personnel had intervened to stop the music, no formal action had initially been initiated for violation of the notification.Acting on the information and photographs received, Satellite police registered a complaint against the operator of the DJ vehicle used in the procession. The vehicle has since been identified and further investigation is in progress.Police said the alleged act amounted to disobedience of a duly promulgated order and caused inconvenience to local residents. An offence has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Gujarat Police Act.
