Srinagar, Feb 17: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said that as many as 12,977 posts of teachers are currently lying vacant across the Union Territory, with the higher share reported from the Jammu Division.
Replying to a query in the Legislative Assembly, the government said the total vacancies, 7,985 posts, are in Jammu Division, while 4,992 vacancies pertain to the Kashmir Division.
In Kashmir Division, Anantnag district has the highest number of vacancies at 1,016 posts. It is followed by Budgam with 797 vacancies, Pulwama with 764 and Kupwara with 621.
Srinagar district accounts for 535 vacant posts, while Bandipora has 310 vacancies and Baramulla has 284. Shopian and Ganderbal report 256 and 244 vacancies respectively, and Kulgam has 165 vacancies, bringing the divisional total to 4,992.
In Jammu Division, Rajouri tops the list with 1,416 teacher vacancies. Kathua follows with 1,332 vacant posts, and Jammu district has 1,234 vacancies.
Udhampur has reported 912 vacancies, Poonch 946 and Doda 866. Reasi accounts for 479 vacant posts, Samba 345, Kishtwar 312 and Ramban 143, taking the total for the division to 7,985.
The government further informed the House that 1,946 promotional vacancies of Masters are also under process. Of these, 1,722 vacancies pertain to the Kashmir Division and 224 to the Jammu Division.
Kupwara leads in promotional vacancies in Kashmir with 352 posts, followed by Anantnag with 316 and Budgam with 198. In the Jammu Division, Jammu district has 44 promotional vacancies, Rajouri 32, Kathua 29, Udhampur 24 and Poonch 22, among others.
“All promotional vacancies of Masters are being filled through Divisional Level Departmental Promotion Committees (DPCs) in accordance with the prescribed rules,” the government said.
