Berhampur: The names of 2.07 lakh electorates in Ganjam district could be deleted from the draft electoral rolls to be published on July 5, the district administration said on Tuesday.Out of 29,99,782 electors in 13 assembly constituencies in the district, 2,07,765 (6.93%) have been found ‘uncollectable’ till Tuesday. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which started on May 28, was completed on Monday. Ganjam, a politically sensitive district, has the highest number of assembly segments in the state.The enumeration forms which have not been collected are those suspected to be that of dead electors, or those who have permanently shifted. While 94,846 electors have been registered dead, 73,401 have permanently shifted, 20,501 were absent, 17,938 have enrolled themselves elsewhere and 1,079 electors have not submitted their enumeration forms for some reason or the other.“The names of the uncollectable enumeration forms will not figure in the draft electoral rolls,” additional district magistrate (ADM) (revenue) Debadutta Panda said.“If any one of them is found eligible, he/she may file an objection to include the name before the booth level officer,” said Panda, who is also the additional district election officer. The last date of filing an objection is Aug 4. Hearing of objections will continue till Sept 2, a source said.Sources said the highest number of absent or dead electors not to figure in draft rolls have been found in Sanakhemundi assembly segment (24,628), followed by Chikiti (20,430), Digapahandi (19,489), Gopalpur (17,839), Hinjili (17,613), Khallikote (16,141), Kanisurya Nagar (16,075), Chhatrapur (14,554), Bhanjanagar (13,740), Polasara (13,494) and Aska (12,298). Surada assembly segment has the lowest number (10,338) of absent electors.Ganjam district administration on Tuesday sought cooperation of the political parties in the ongoing exercise, while assuring to include all eligible voters in the electrical rolls. “In the present system, we will not leave out any eligible electors. He or she will be included in the voter list of the respective constituency,” said Panda.Before publishing the draft electoral rolls, the district administration held a meeting with the political representatives at Chhatrapur. They have also replied to their queries. “The main objective of the SIR is to make clean electoral rolls,” ADM added.
