Nagpur: Manoj Chavhan of Lakshavedh Foundation underlined his supremacy on Day one of the 40th Maharashtra State junior athletics championship which began at Dervan, Ratnagiri, on Thursday.In the men’s U-20 javelin throw competition, Nagpur’s Manoj covered a distance of 60.35 metres to dominate the proceedings as his nearest rival, Dinesh Mohate from Nanded, won the silver medal with a throw of 54.23 metres. Ahmednagar’s Sai Lokhande (52.57m) won the bronze medal.While Manoj, a trainee of NIS coach Ishita Roy, was beyond the reach of his fellow rivals, Nagpur’s Mansi Patankar from Track Star Athletics Club won the bronze medal in the women’s U-20 competition.

Durva Shevade of Satara (43.62m) won the gold medal, Arya Mohite from Sangli (39.01m) finished second as Mansi (28.65m) completed the podium finish. Mansi practises under Ravindra Tong and Umesh Naidu.In the boys’ U-18 long jump, the city’s Krutarth Giradkar finished fourth. In the girls’ U-18 100-metre race, Kasti Meshram finished eighth.In the U-20 group, Kashish has qualified for the final of the 400-metre race. Pranay Upase and Pradum Raut booked their berths in the 1500-metre final race, while Yash Nikode has qualified for the 400-metre final. In the boys’ U-18 group, Kaushik Chaudhari and Yash Bagve, and in the girls’ group, Janavi Bavane, have qualified. The boys’ medley relay team of Nagpur comprising Darshan Wade, Mohammad Shadab, Janmesh Shrivastav and Rishabh Mankar finished second to qualify for the final.
