Dimapur: Nagaland’s Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection Department on Tuesday directed all traders, dealers, retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, packers and others engaged in trade and commerce in the state to comply with legal metrology and consumer protection laws.In a notification, the department said the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, the Legal Metrology (General) Rules, 2011, the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, and other applicable laws and rules must be strictly followed by all concerned.The department said its officers would conduct inspections and enforcement drives across the state to ensure compliance.Any violation detected during inspection will be dealt with in accordance with the Legal Metrology Act, 2009, and other applicable Acts and Rules, including penalties and proceedings, the notification said.The department directed traders and dealers to ensure that all weights, measures and measuring instruments used in trade and commercial transactions are duly verified and stamped by the Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection Department within the prescribed period.It said no unverified, unstamped, defective, unclean, loam-stuck or non-standard weighing or measuring instrument should be used for any transaction or trade.All transactions involving goods sold by weight, measure or number must be carried out using prescribed standard units and duly verified instruments.The department said all pre-packaged commodities must comply with mandatory declarations and requirements prescribed under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, including declarations on net quantity, maximum retail price, and the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or importer, along with other applicable particulars.
