Bhubaneswar: BJP national president Nitin Nabin on Monday underlined the need for long-term commitment to running a government, while accusing opposition parties of indulging in “negative politics”, as he urged Odisha BJP functionaries to align Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision with a disciplined organisation and stronger grassroots connect.Nabin stressed tighter coordination within the party, greater outreach at the grassroots and a central role for workers in shaping both governance and organisational strategy. He also emphasised that there is always scope for improvement, according to party insiders.The BJP chief delivered this message during a series of engagements, including a meeting of the state core committee attended by chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram, and senior office-bearers. He also addressed a training programme of party workers and held discussions with members of the council of ministers and heads of the party’s frontal organisations, MLAs and MPs.At the training session, Nabin said forming a government requires struggle, but sustaining it demands dedication and discipline. “We need a mindset of long-term struggle and commitment. The aim is not merely to attain power, but to overcome challenges successfully while in governance,” he said.Highlighting the party’s national outlook, Nabin said a positive environment has been created in favour of the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is working towards the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. He, however, launched a sharp attack on opposition parties, accusing them of adopting a negative approach.“In the past, opposition parties played a constructive role in supporting govts. Today, their attitude has changed significantly, reflecting negativity in their statements and actions,” he said. Nabin also alleged the opposition was misleading the youth, inciting them as Gen Z, and hampering development, contrasting it with what he described as India’s tradition of innovation and constructive thinking among young people.The BJP leader further outlined key national challenges, including threats related to terrorism, infiltration, border disputes and smuggling. He said safeguarding internal and external security would remain a priority, while also flagging concerns over issues such as religious conversions, regionalism and cultural “attacks”. “Development must be rooted in culture, and there can be no compromise on national security,” he said, adding that continuous training and organisational strengthening remain central to the party’s strategy.Reacting to his address, former state BJP president Basanta Panda said Nabin was candid in his interactions and focused on strengthening the organisation without complacency. “He stressed a coordinated approach and reiterated the Prime Minister’s vision centred on women, farmers and youth,” Panda said.Revenue and disaster management minister Suresh Pujari said discussions with the BJP chief also covered the roadmap for a ‘Viksit Odisha’ by 2036 and a review of the state government’s performance over the past two years. He added that Nabin advised making governance more people-centric to ensure benefits reach the last mile.During his visit, Nabin also travelled to Puri to offer prayers at the Jagannath temple. Calling it a privilege, he said he sought blessings for the peace and prosperity of the country. He later reiterated that the party would continue to draw inspiration from Lord Jagannath’s blessings in its public service efforts.
