Patna: The state home department on Friday claimed that Bihar recorded a 10.1% decline in murder cases in 2025-26 compared with the previous year, while robbery and riot cases fell by 31.32% and 18.97%, respectively. The department also highlighted the elimination of Maoist influence from several districts and intensified action against economic and cybercrime.Home secretary Pranav Kumar and director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar said the govt continues to follow a zero-tolerance policy towards communal incidents and acts promptly on receiving information about such cases.The home secretary said prosecution was sanctioned in 263 communal violence cases during 2025-26, and districts were directed to file chargesheets without delay. He added that FIRs were registered in 96.17% of cases under Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in compliance with court directions.Highlighting progress against Left Wing Extremism, officials said the number of Maoist-affected districts in Bihar has fallen from 22 in 2013 to zero. The Centre has consequently classified Aurangabad, Gaya, Jamui and Lakhisarai as legacy and thrust districts for focused development and security interventions.The DGP said 27 police stations approved under the Special Infrastructure Scheme have been completed. No encounter between security forces and Maoists was reported in the state till July 31 this year, though 58 Maoists were arrested. Security forces also recovered 11 regular firearms, six weapons looted from police, 43 country-made weapons, 792 rounds of ammunition, 371kg of explosives and 12.5kg of detonators and can bombs.On economic offences, the DGP said 13 disproportionate assets cases involving public servants have been registered so far this year. Proposals for attachment of properties worth Rs 129.46 crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act have been sent to the Enforcement Directorate. Under the Bihar Special Courts Act, 32 proposals for property confiscation were received, with orders issued in 20 cases.The department also reported action against malpractice in NEET-UG 2026 and the re-examination process. Four cases linked to question-paper leaks were registered in Bihar, leading to the arrest of 33 accused, who were subsequently sent to judicial custody.With cyberfraud emerging as a major challenge, the department said it has intensified efforts in investigation, prevention and public awareness. The cybercrime helpline 1930 currently operates with 50 lines, which are planned to be increased to 75.According to the DGP, around 13,600 complaints related to cyberfraud and other cyber offences were reported in Bihar till July 2026. As many as 114 cyberfraud complaints were registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Through the portal, authorities put transactions worth about Rs 104.05 crore on hold, nearly 29.62% of the total reported amount, while Rs 9.99 crore has been returned to victims.Cyber police stations registered 2,942 cases this year and arrested 522 cyber criminals. The Cyber Intelligence Team blocked 6,399 mobile numbers and 1,876 IMEI numbers linked to cybercrime. Under the ‘Cyber Prahar’ campaign, 153 cyber criminals were arrested till July. The Social Media Patrolling Unit acted against 2,809 URLs and user IDs carrying objectionable content, resulting in the takedown of 738 social media accounts.To strengthen cybercrime investigation, 630 police personnel were trained till July. The Economic Offences Unit also organised 91 awareness programmes, including 40 in schools and colleges and 51 through district and railway units.Officials said the newly introduced Bhu-Samadhan Portal is being used to monitor and analyse land dispute cases and is being updated in line with the new criminal laws to enable faster resolution of disputes.The home department said the figures reflect the govt’s focus on crime control, modern policing, intelligence-led operations and tackling organised, economic and cybercrime across the state.
