COIMBATORE: Sumathi, mother of murdered Coimbatore engineering college student Amudhan, rejected minister A Rajmohan’s statement in the assembly that the murder was the result of a gang war. She said the motive of the murder was linked to her son reporting students who were peddling and consuming drugs.Sumathi told reporters in Kallakurichi that the attack could not be described a clash between two gangs because her son had been targeted and assaulted by nearly 20 people using deadly weapons. She said if it had been truly a conflict between two gangs, others involved would also have been attacked, not just her son and his friend, Sriman. She said her son and Sriman had been taken to isolated places and assaulted, which she said proved that it was a planned attack rather than a gang rivalry. She alleged that staff members of the college had leaked information about drug peddling her son had told them. She demanded that police reveal the real reason for the murder and arrest all those involved in the crime.
