NAMAKKAL: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) have arrested a special sub-inspector (SSI) attached to Nallur police station in Namakkal district on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 to settle a land encroachment case.SSI V Gangadharan demanded Rs 30,000 from K Saumiyaraj, 47, a farmer in Nadandhai Salappalayam, to close a land encroachment case registered against him and his neighbour, S Muthusamy, 48, four months ago.Unwilling to pay the bribe, Saumiyaraj lodged a complaint with the DVAC unit in Namakkal on Tuesday. Acting on the complaint, officials instructed him to hand over chemical-coated currency notes to the tune of Rs 30,000 to the SSI.On Tuesday evening, as Saumiyaraj handed over the cash to Gangadharan, DVAC sleuths led by inspector Prabhu caught him red-handed. “He was arrested and taken into custody for interrogation,” said a DVAC officer.
