TIRUPUR: A man hacked his girlfriend and her mother to death near Palladam in Tirupur district on Tuesday after she started avoiding him as instructed by her mother, police said.The murdered have been identified as P Poovarasi, 22, and her mother P Dhanalakshmi, 42, of Pachapalayam near Palladam. Poovarasi, who had recently completed her college education, was working at a private firm while Dhanalakshmi and her husband, Palanisamy, worked in the local garment industry. Poovarasi had been in a relationship with Akshay, 27, of Dindigul for the past four years.After Palanisamy left for work on Tuesday morning, Akshay trespassed into Poovarasi’s house. He entered into a verbal altercation with Poovarasi and her mother before attacking both women with a sickle he had brought with him.Hearing their screams, neighbours rushed to the house and found the mother-daughter duo lying in a pool of blood. They managed to nab the assailant as he attempted to flee the crime scene.On being alerted, a police team led by Palladam deputy superintendent of police Parthiban arrived at the spot, secured the bodies and sent them to the Tirupur govt hospital for postmortem. District superintendent of police Shristi Singh also visited the crime scene.During interrogations, Akshay told police that he had befriended Poovarasi on a social media platform and been in a relationship with her for the past four years. Recently, Poovarasi’s mother found out about their relationship and opposed it. Dhanalakshmi strictly warned Poovarasi to break off all contact with Akshay. Following her mother’s instructions, Poovarasi started avoiding Akshay despite his repeated attempts to reach out to her, according to police. “Enraged by the rejection and avoidance, Akshay arrived at Poovarasi’s residence and murdered them,” a police officer said.The Palladam police registered a murder case and arrested Akshay. He was remanded in judicial custody.
