Chandigarh: UT police arrested a murder suspect for allegedly robbing a vegetable vendor of his cash at knifepoint in Ramdarbar. The March 29 incident was captured in a CCTV camera installed near the crime scene. After verifying the camera footage, Sector 31 police arrested the accused.The accused, identified as Deepak alias Lalla (26), a resident of Mauli Jagran Complex, was earlier booked in four criminal cases, including a murder case registered in 2019, police said. He was out on bail in all cases.The victim — Mahendra Sah (38), a resident of Ramdarbar phase 2 — claimed that Deepak cam on a bike around 11.15 am, and blocked his way when he was selling vegetables on a cart in Ramdarbar. Deepak pulled out a knife and snatched Sah’s silver chain from his neck and Rs 200-300 cash and his Aadhaar card from his pocket.The accused also threatened him to kill him if he visited the area again. On the statement of the victim, the Sector 31 police registered a case and arrested Deepak on Tuesday. Police claimed to have recovered a knife and stolen documents of the victim. Police produced the accused before the local court, which sent him to one-day police remand for further interrogation.
