Bokaro: After two men from Giridih district were arrested in Mumbai recently for allegedly stealing valuables worth Rs 2.65 crore from the home of Maharashtra Legislative Council deputy chairman Sachin Ahir, a joint team of Mumbai Police and their counterparts in Giridih raided two villages in the district and recovered cash, gold ornaments and other stolen valuables. An SUV, allegedly purchased using the money stolen from Ahir’s house, was also seized.The accused, identified as Amit Yadav (26), a resident of Pandariya village, and Satish Kumar (26) of Sankh village, worked as domestic help at Ahir’s Worli home for four years. Police alleged that the duo gradually stole cash, gold jewellery and other valuables over an extended period without raising suspicion.SDPO of Khori Mahua Amrender Kumar said, “An FIR was registered in Mumbai leading to their arrest. During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to the crime.”The Mumbai police team led by sub-inspector Yogesh Tharvkar and assistant sub-inspector Arun Ghatkar of Worli police station travelled to Giridih along with the accused to conduct raids at their villages.“The team recovered Rs 1.75 lakh in cash, gold ornaments worth nearly Rs 4 lakh, other stolen valuables and an SUV,” said Kumar.The investigation began after Ahir on July 23 submitted a complaint to the Mumbai crime branch chief. An FIR had earlier been registered based on a complaint filed by his son, Krishna Sachin Ahir, reporting that valuables had gone missing from the residence over the past five years. Four domestic workers were employed at Ahir’s residence. Besides these two, another maid, Pravin Solanki (45), was also arrested.
