Mumbai: Versova police arrested 18-year-old Rehan Wasim Khan of Juhu Galli, Andheri West, for allegedly stealing a fitness trainer’s scooter from Versova on the night of Sept 25. Police recovered the scooter from Juhu Galli a week later after examining footage from at least 100 closed-circuit television cameras.Police said Khan claimed he stole two-wheelers for joyrides and abandoned them when they ran out of fuel. Three stolen two-wheelers and a master key, allegedly obtained from an accomplice now in jail, were seized from him.The case was registered after Vishal Wadkar filed a complaint on Sept 26 when he found his scooter missing from a roadside parking area opposite Matoshree Gym, near Laxmikant Berde Garden, on Yari Road in Versova.A police team, led by sub-inspectors Sagar Nikam and Vishal Daundkar, tracked down Khan after identifying four mobile numbers active on the night Wadkar’s scooter was stolen. Technical analysis showed that the movement of Khan’s mobile phone matched the route traced through camera footage, an officer said.
