Mumbai: The BMC is preparing estimates to float a new concrete road work tender worth Rs 6,000 crore with an eye on beginning these works from December or January.Officials said that estimates for these works are already being prepared and the plans include incorporating the unfinished works which were a part of two civic-appointed contractors who were given road concretisation work orders in 2023-2024 but either failed to complete it or have been slow to complete it.Officials said the scope of the contractor, Nagarjuna Construction Company (NCC), has been decreased by Rs 300 crore of the total Rs 1,600 crore work that was allotted to it, while Rs 85 crore was reduced in the case of another road contractor, Eagle Infra India. In 2023, the BMC awarded five companies contracts worth Rs 6,080 crore for a mega cement concrete (CC) road project, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The contract was awarded to Nagarjuna Construction Company, Eagle Infra India, Roadways Solutions India Infra, Megha Engineers & Infrastructure, and Dineshchandra Agrawal Infracon.A BMC road department official said, “There have been complaints that the pace of the work has been slow by some contractors, hence we have decided to reduce the scope of work and accordingly include it as a part of the new tender which will be floated for the next phase of road concretisation works.”The new tender is expected to include roads with width of nine metres and below as well.
