New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested two men from central Delhi in connection with multiple burglary cases reported in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. The duo had recently robbed a house in Old Rajendra Nagar, decamping with cash, gold, and diamond jewellery.According to police, a complaint was received on May 27 from a resident of Old Rajendra Nagar, who reported that gold and diamond jewellery, silver articles, and cash had been stolen from his home. An FIR was registered at Rajendra Nagar police station, and a special team was formed to investigate the case.DCP (central) Nidhin Valsan said, “The team examined CCTV footage from several locations. Acting on a tip-off, both suspects were apprehended from Shivaji Park in West Delhi after a brief chase on July 18.”During interrogation, the accused were identified as Akbar alias Firoz alias Babu (40), a resident of Ghaziabad, and Ramesh alias Kallu (42), a resident of Maujpur.“The accused confessed to multiple burglaries in the Rajendra Nagar area, including a major theft on June 2 in south Delhi’s CR Park, where they stole 1 kg of gold, 1 kg of silver, and Rs 20 lakh in cash,” Valsan added.Explaining their modus operandi, police said the duo targeted houses in metropolitan cities where families were away. They would ring the doorbells to confirm no one was home, then mark the property for burglary.Both Akbar and Ramesh are proclaimed offenders with previous cases under various charges including robbery, dacoity, and under the Arms Act. Akbar has been active since 2021 with 20 cases registered against him, while Ramesh has been involved in 13 cases since 2022. Together, they are suspected of being involved in at least 16 robberies across cities.Police recovered 121 grams of gold worth over Rs 12 lakh from their possession. During questioning, the duo disclosed they had divided the stolen goods with a third accomplice, Monu alias Abhishek, who remains at large. Efforts to trace Monu are ongoing, and further investigation is underway.
