Ranchi/Jamshedpur/Bokaro: Muharram processions passed off peacefully on Friday amid elaborate security arrangements, with authorities maintaining heightened vigil ahead of the larger events scheduled for Saturday.In Ranchi, the district administration deployed around 5,000 security personnel to ensure the peaceful conduct of processions and maintain communal harmony. While Shia community processions on Friday concluded without incident, officials said elaborate arrangements were in place for Saturday’s events.Deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said adequate magistrates and police personnel had been deployed for smooth observance and that the administration was fully prepared for Saturday’s rituals. Officials have been stationed at over 300 locations, supported by watchtowers in key areas such as Doranda and Main Road, besides drone surveillance, CCTV monitoring and videography.Night patrolling was intensified with bike teams keeping vigil, while a central control room at Doranda and sub-control centres at several police stations coordinated the security response. Around 50 quick reaction teams and anti-riot units equipped with tear gas, rubber bullets and wireless communication systems were also deployed. Authorities are also monitoring social media to curb rumours and misinformation.In Jamshedpur, Muharram processions concluded peacefully with large participation. The observance featured drumbeats, chants, chest-beating rituals and martial arts displays by akharas, while devotees lined the streets and local organisations distributed water, sharbat and food. Around 1,200 police personnel, along with RAF, RAP and 500 Home Guards, were deployed, with surveillance carried out through the Composite Crime Control Room. No untoward incident was reported.Bokaro also witnessed peaceful Muharram processions, with thousands participating in tazia processions under heavy security. Martial arts performances drew large crowds, while officials remained on vigil at sensitive locations.
