Gaya: The Magadh University (MU) senate on Saturday passed the Rs 1,592 crore budget for 2026-27, showing a deficit of Rs 1,124 crore. MU officiating VC Dilip Kumar Keshari presided over the meeting.Against estimated income of Rs 468 crore, mainly from the state govt’s salary-pension grant, total expenditure has been projected at Rs 1,592 crore. The state govt is expected to provide Rs 450 crore, while Rs 18 crore will come from internal sources, including tuition, admission, registration and affiliation fees.The budget provides Rs 187 crore for salaries and establishment, Rs 434 crore for pension and superannuation benefits, Rs 109 crore for contingencies and Rs 143 crore for arrears of serving employees and teachers. Outstanding dues of pensioners, including family pensioners, stand at Rs 208 crore.The senate also ratified decisions taken by the Syndicate, Academic Council and Affiliation Committee between Feb 2, 2025 and Aug 21, 2026. The previous senate meeting was held on Feb 2, 2025.The meeting was briefly disrupted when several dozen students stormed into Radhakrishnan Hall of the distance education department, where the meeting was being held. They raised slogans against university officials and alleged administrative lapses.MU registrar Binod Kumar Mangalam said he and the VC were holding talks with the students over their 32-point charter of demands, including timely examinations, publication of results, degree issuance, availability of teachers, student amenities and the long-delayed student union election. Talks continued till the time of reporting.
