Chandigarh: Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari Friday chaired a review meeting on the implementation of projects under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) at the municipal corporation office and stressed the need to fast-track development works.Tewari said MPLADS projects address micro-level community needs and should be executed expeditiously to ensure timely benefits to residents.During the meeting, the MP raised concerns over the increasing demand for CCTV cameras from various parts of the city and asked deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav to examine the reasons behind it.Despite Chandigarh’s robust policing arrangements, Tewari said, there appeared to be a persistent sense of insecurity among residents, reflected in the growing demand for CCTV surveillance at the grassroots level. He also directed officials to conduct an audit of CCTV cameras installed across the city under MPLADS since Dec 2024, when scheme-funded projects began being operationalised, to assess their functioning and effectiveness.Tewari further asked officials to bring to his notice any proposals that could provide tangible public benefits, improve civic convenience or address local needs so that such projects could be considered under MPLADS.Deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, municipal commissioner Amit Kumar, additional deputy commissioner Amandeep Singh Bhatti, MC chief Engineer Sanjay Arora and other senior officers attended the meeting.
