Chandigarh: Deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav Friday chaired a meeting to finalise arrangements for the Independence Day celebrations to be held at the Sector 17 Parade Ground on Aug 15.The meeting reviewed logistical, security and cultural preparations, with the DC directing all departments to ensure seamless coordination for the smooth conduct of the event.Yadav instructed the senior superintendent of police (SSP) to nominate the Parade Commander by July 30 and oversee parade contingents, rehearsals, security and traffic management arrangements.The school education, higher education and district education departments have been asked to finalise the cultural programme and submit details of participating children and performances by July 25.The municipal corporation will be responsible for barricading, sanitation and horticulture works at the venue, while the health department has been directed to deploy an ambulance, medical officer and paramedical staff during the function.The electricity department will ensure uninterrupted power supply, arrange DG-set backup and CCTV coverage. The engineering department has been tasked with completing renovations of the flagpole, dais and gangway well before the celebrations.The department of public relations will manage the announcer, public address system and digital coverage of the event, while the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) will provide transportation for students and NCC cadets.The deputy commissioner’s office will oversee VIP seating, invitations, mementoes and refreshments. The Zila Sainik Welfare Office has been directed to ensure proper protocol arrangements for families of ex-servicemen attending the function.Emphasising interdepartmental coordination, Yadav urged all officials to work in tandem to make the Independence Day celebrations a grand success.
