The Prayagraj division of NCR has signed an agreement with Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd.

Prayagraj: The Prayagraj division of North Central Railway (NCR) has signed an agreement with Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd for transporting cement by rail from its Chunar plant, a move expected to boost freight traffic and revenue.According to the public relations officer, Prayagraj division, NCR, Amit Kumar Singh, the agreement was signed on Monday by P Sudalai Muthu, national logistics operations head, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd, and Shīrat Fatima, senior divisional commercial manager (freight), Prayagraj division, in the presence of additional divisional railway manager (general) Deepak Kumar.Singh said Dalmia Cement recently acquired the Chunar cement plant of erstwhile Jaiprakash Associates Ltd and resumed production in June 2026. The agreement will facilitate transportation of cement and raw materials through rail as operations expand.Around 6-7 full rakes carrying nearly 15,000 tonnes of cement are proposed to be transported from Chunar to Ghazipur, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Chilbila and other destinations in Aug. From Sept, the company plans to load around 10 full rakes, carrying nearly 26,000 tonnes, every month.The company also plans to transport around 15 rakes of clinker and 1-2 rakes of gypsum to the plant every month. Singh said the number of inward rakes is likely to rise with an increase in production capacity.The initiative is expected to increase freight revenue of the Prayagraj division while providing industries with a reliable, cost-effective and environment-friendly logistics option. It will also help NCR connect more industrial customers to rail transport and expand its freight business, Singh said.
