Hyderabad: Residents of ward 8 in Bolarum under the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) have raised serious concerns over the worsening mosquito menace in the locality, particularly during the ongoing examination season. The situation has reportedly caused anxiety among families due to the potential threat of mosquito-borne illnesses and viral fevers, especially for students and senior citizens.According to residents, mosquito breeding has increased significantly in recent weeks due to stagnant water, open drains, and inadequate sanitation measures. Several elderly residents have reportedly experienced symptoms of viral fever and respiratory discomfort, heightening fears of a potential seasonal outbreak if preventive steps are not taken immediately. Parents have expressed concern that any illness during this critical academic period could severely affect students preparing for their final examinations. The most affected areas include Garden-95 and the surrounding residential pockets of Doveton Road, where dense greenery and pedestrian movement have contributed to increased mosquito activity, particularly during the evening hours. In response to the growing health risk, residents have demanded immediate intervention from the health & sanitation division. They have urged authorities to undertake regular evening fogging operations, conduct anti-larval spraying in open drains, manholes, and stagnant water zones, and apply bleaching powder around garbage bins, road junctions, and public gathering areas to improve overall sanitation.Residents of ward 8 have submitted a formal representation to the chief executive officer and the head of the health & sanitation department of the SCB, requesting urgent action to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of seasonal diseases in the area. Devender, head of the health and sanitation department, SCB, told TOI that fogging operations are being conducted on a weekly basis in the area. He stated that the department has taken note of the residents’ complaint and that the frequency of fogging will be increased to address the issue more effectively.
