New Delhi: Delhi is likely to miss its normal monsoon onset date of June 27. The India Meteorological Department is yet to announce a likely date for its onset in Delhi, though rain is expected to continue over the coming days.Despite the rain prospects, hot and humid conditions remained oppressive, with Delhi’s heat index or feel-like temperature soaring to 47.5 degrees Celsius at 2.30 pm on Friday.The maximum temperature was recorded at 41.5 degrees Celsius, four degrees above normal. The monsoon had reached the city on June 29 last year and on June 28 in 2024. “Conditions are favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of north Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar, some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next 3-4 days,” IMD said.IMD has issued a yellow alert for light to very light rain, thunderstorm and gusty winds up to 60 kmph on Friday night. Though there is no colour coded warning, the Met department has predicted that rain is likely to continue over the next few days.The maximum temperature is expected to stay between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius on Saturday. In June, so far, Safdarjung has logged 41.8 mm of rainfall as against the entire month’s normal of 74.1 mm. The minimum temperature on Friday was 28.7 degrees Celsius. It is likely to remain between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
