Dimapur: Mokokchung is the top-performing district in Nagaland in terms of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) performance and ranks fourth among 121 districts in the northeastern states, principal secretary and development commissioner Y Kikheto Sema said.Sema said Mokokchung’s SDG performance reflected the district’s strong development indicators.Sema, accompanied by deputy development commissioner Imlikokba and other officials, inspected the library-cum-museum and Dikhu Bridge–Amguri road projects in Mokokchung on Monday. He said the library-cum-museum at Ungma village had been constructed under a North Eastern Council (NEC) project at a cost of Rs 4.21 crore.Describing Ungma as one of Nagaland’s iconic villages, Sema urged the village council to extend its community and charitable initiatives beyond the village and support comparatively less-developed communities and villages.Sema later inspected Dikhu Bridge–Amguri road. The project was completed on May 13, 2025, with 100% physical and financial progress recorded. However, landslides were observed at three locations.Sema directed the contractor to clear the landslides during the working season and construct suitable retaining structures using rock boulders and wire mesh to strengthen the affected stretches. He said the planning and transformation department — the nodal department for ministry of development of North Eastern Region and NEC — had been directed by ministry to inspect projects in all districts of Nagaland to ensure quality work, proper implementation and timely completion.Mokokchung was the first district covered under the inspection initiative, after which important projects in the other districts would also be inspected, Sema added.
