Gurgaon: Union home minister Amit Shah on Wednesday described Oct 7 as a “golden and epoch-making day” in Indian democracy as Narendra Modi completed 25 years in public life, his years as Gujarat CM and Prime Minister taken together. Addressing a Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sabha–Seva Jyoti Yatra in the city on Wednesday , Shah said Modi had created a record by remaining continuously at the helm of govts for 25 years and that the period would be written in “golden letters” in India’s history.Abrogation of Article 370, action against Naxalism, Ram temple construction, infrastructure expansion and lifting 25 crore people above the poverty line had all happened during Modi’s tenure as PM, Shah said. He described Modi’s journey as one of service, welfare for the poor, national pride and development.Shah said a person born into a poor family had, through ability, talent and by taking crores of people along, created a record by leading the country for 25 years as CM and PM.The programme began with Shah, Haryana chief minister Nayab Singh Saini, senior leaders and hundreds of participants listening to the PM’s address live.Shah also urged young people to take part in the Seva Jyoti Yatra, which is being organised across districts as part of the campaign. In Gurgaon, the event was followed by a torch march covering the city’s four assembly constituencies.After Shah’s address, the symbolic torch was handed over to Saini. The chief minister carried the flame during a march through the city before it was installed near Signature Tower. Delivering the message of realising the resolve of a Viksit Bharat, Saini said the development of the country and the state would be meaningful only when better facilities reach every person and people’s lives become happy, prosperous and free from problems.
