Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday praised former chief minister J Jayalalithaa calling her as a leader who placed people’s welfare at the centre of governance. Paying tribute to Jayalalithaa, ahead of her birth anniversary on Feb 24, Modi said in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, that she continued to live in public memory because of her qualities. “Even today, during my visits to Tamil Nadu, I can see how deep the people’s affection for her still is,” he said.
He noted, women felt a strong connection with her because of the welfare initiatives she introduced. Recalling their interactions when both served as chief ministers, Modi said they often exchanged views on governance. “Her thinking was very clear and her views were well-balanced,” he said.
