Ludhiana: A high-speed escape by three motorcycle-borne thieves ended in a violent collision on Saturday night, after the trio struck a child while fleeing the scene of a robbery in the Janakpuri district.The suspects, who had just snatched a mobile phone from a local resident, lost control of their vehicle in nearby Ganesh Nagar after hitting 12-year-old Piyush, who was playing in the street. While two of the men managed to flee the crash site on foot, angry onlookers apprehended one suspect, later identified as a member of a local snatching gang.A Neighborhood ChaseThe incident began when Mohammad Shehzad, a resident of Janakpuri, was accosted by three men on a single motorcycle while walking near his home. The trio forcibly took his phone and sped off. “I raised an alarm and tried to give chase, but they were too fast,” Shehzad said. Minutes later, an acquaintance informed him that the men had been intercepted by a mob in a neighboring street. Shehzad arrived at the crash site in Ganesh Nagar to find his mobile phone in the possession of the pinned-down suspect.The CollisionWitnesses in Ganesh Nagar described a scene of chaos as the speeding bike careened into the residential street. “They were speeding when they hit the boy. As he fell, the bike crushed his leg,” a local resident said. The impact caused the motorcycle to slide, throwing all three riders to the pavement. The captured suspect reportedly confessed to the crowd that they were driving recklessly to escape the Janakpuri robbery.The victim, Piyush, was rushed to a nearby hospital with leg injuries. Medical officials confirmed on Sunday that the boy is in stable condition and has since been discharged.Jurisdictional ComplicationsThe crime has crossed two local police jurisdictions, leading to a split in the legal proceedings. Division Number 2 handled the initial snatching. Police have confirmed the victim received his phone back and declined to lodge a formal first-information report (FIR). Division Number 3 is moving forward with a criminal case regarding the hit-and-run and the injuries caused to the minor.The investigating officer, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Amarjeet Singh has stated that two of the three suspects have been identified as Raju and Krishan. Police are currently conducting raids to apprehend the two men who escaped the scene.
