GURGAON: An FIR has been registered against a group of people from Nuh’s Sikrawa village for allegedly attacking a Meghalaya Police team and trying to free an ATM robber from custody. The clash led to a youth sustaining a bullet injury on his leg but he is reported to be stable after treatment. Of those mentioned in the FIR, 12 people have been identified and efforts are on to trace other members of the mob, an officer said.According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Nuh) Ayush Yadav, the incident took place on Tuesday evening when the Meghalaya Police team, after securing a transit remand for robbery accused Rahul Khan, came to Nuh’s Wajidpur village to arrest him. Rahul is also accused of several robbery cases in Dwarka, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh apart from being wanted by Meghalaya Police’s Special Cell, an officer said. While the team was near Sikrawa village close to HR-93 Donga Hotel in the jurisdiction of the Pinangwa police station, Rahul allegedly insisted the vehicle be stopped. Subsequently, he grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to overturn the vehicle and escape from custody. “During the commotion, a crowd of around 20-30 people, including women, gathered at the spot and surrounded the police vehicle,” a Meghalaya Police officer said. They tried to snatch the car keys, assault the police personnel and seize their weapons. As the situation escalated, personnel of Meghalaya Police opened fire in self-defence to disperse the crowd. During the firing, Tareef Khan, from Sikrawa, sustained a bullet injury in his leg.He was taken to Pt Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak, where his condition was reported to be stable.Those identified include Naseem, Farookh, Maimuna, Sahruni, Mustakeem, Sahid, Khuddi, Khalid, Bhuppat, Zafar, Tareef Khan, and Rahul. Investigators also recovered two empty cartridges, blood samples, and blood-stained clothing from the spot.The accused persons have been booked for obstructing govt duty and other relevant sections of the BNS. The officer said police teams are examining videos from the scene to trace the unidentified members of the mob.
