Erode: K A Sengottaiyan’s name written using TVK flag colours with the prefix MLA on the newly-constructed bus shelter in Kosanam panchayat in Gobichettipalayam assembly constituency has courted a controversy, with both DMK and AIADMK warning of a protest.The bus shelter was constructed at a cost of Rs8.5 lakh using the assembly constituency development fund, which was allocated by Sengottaiyan, who was the MLA at the time. While the construction work was completed four months ago, painting work was carried out recently as per the orders of Nambiyur block officials. “Sengottaiyan’s name with the prefix MLA is written on the sunshade and the letters are in the flag colours of TVK, to which he currently belongs,” says a source. DMK and AIADMK have objected to the use of TVK party colours and the use of MLA as the prefix before Sengottaiyan’s name, as he is not an MLA anymore. “It is unacceptable. If the name is not removed immediately, we will hold a protest and whitewash the sunshade,” says Yoga Palanisamy, AIADMK Nambiyur North union secretary. DMK functionaries also warned of a protest if the word MLA and Sengottaiyan’s name were not removed from the bus shelter. Meanwhile, more than 50 people, led by Yoga Palaniswami, laid a siege to the Nambiyur block development office on Friday, raising slogans against the officials. The crowd dispersed after the officials promised to take appropriate action in connection with the issue.
