Aizawl: Indian International hockey player and an Olympian, Mizoram’s Lalremsiami Hmar has been selected for the prestigious Arjuna Award 2025-26 for her achievements in hockey, according to an announcement made by the ministry of youth affairs & sports on Tuesday. Lalremsiami will be the first sportsperson from Mizoram to be conferred the Arjuna Award for ‘outstanding performance in Sports and Games.’Born on March 30, 2000, in Kolasib, a town in Mizoram near the Assam border, Lalremsiami Hmar is an Indian field hockey player who plays as a forward and occasionally as a halfback. She was part of India’s 18-member squad at the 2018 World Cup and later won a silver medal at the Asian Games, becoming the first sportsperson from Mizoram to win an Asian medal. In 2021, she was named to India’s Olympic squad, becoming the first female sportsperson from Mizoram to represent the country at the Games.State chief minister Lalduhoma said, “It is a matter of great pride and immense joy that Lalremsiami, India’s international hockey player and our only Mizo woman Olympian has been selected for the prestigious Arjuna Award 2025-26, one of India’s highest national honours for excellence in sports, as announced by the ministry of youth affairs and sports on 18 august 2026.”Taking to his social media handle, CM Lalduhoma stated that Lalremsiami has brought immense pride to Mizoram and has made significant contributions to Indian hockey through her dedication, perseverance and outstanding achievements. “On behalf of the people of Mizoram, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Lalremsiami on this well-deserved honour. Her achievement is an inspiration to our youth and a proud moment for the entire State,” Lalduhoma said.State sports minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also congratulated Lalremsiami for her outstanding achievements in hockey which culminated into being selected for the prestigious award. A proud moment not only for Lalremsiami, but for Mizoram as a whole. Her dedication, hard work and remarkable contribution to Indian hockey have brought immense pride to the state and the nation, the minister said.“The Arjuna Award is the second most prestigious award for outstanding sporting achievement in India. The award comes with a cash prize of Rs. 15 lacs as well as several other benefits. Once again, I congratulate Remsiami on this incredible milestone and wish her continued success in the years ahead,” Lalnghinglova Hmar said in a social media post.
