Ludhiana: Around a fortnight after a person went missing, his body was found in the forest area along Sirhind canal on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Karanvir Singh of Samrala.Amritpal Kaur, mother of the deceased, had filed a missing persons report with the police after her son Karanvir had gone missing since Feb 5.Local sources said after filing the report, the police and family members were searching for the missing youth. They added that from the locations of his mobile phone and CCTV footage, it was found that Karanvir had gone to Khamano with his friends, after which he had gone missing.Family members of the deceased told cops that Karanvir was addicted to drugs and had also been admitted to a drug rehabilitation centre in Baddi for a year, from which he had come out a few days ago. When his friends were “questioned” by the family and the police, one of them shared that he had died and his body was lying in the forest area on the side of the Sirhind canal.The family members were searching for his body for two days, when on Wednesday someone informed the police that foul smell was coming from the forest area and a body was lying there. When the police and family members reached the spot, they saw that the body was that of Karanvir Singh, which had started decomposing. The police took the body into their possession and sent it for post-mortem examination.The family members told cops that Karanvir was either murdered or had died of drug overdose and sought strictest action against the culprits. Inspector Harvinder Singh, SHO Samrala police station, said the police had registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder into the matter and the cause of death would be known after they received post-mortem examination report.
