Ludhiana: In a daring heist during the early hours of Tuesday, a gang of seven miscreants targeted an under-construction site near Jawaddi Bridge, holding a security guard captive before making off with 67kg iron rods. The accused allegedly arrived in a canter, which they used to transport the stolen material.The incident took place at a 450-sq-ft property in Prakash Nagar, owned by Namanpreet Singh, a resident of BRS Nagar. Singh stated that the site contained 200 sacks of cement and the iron rods for ongoing construction. To safeguard the materials, he had hired a security guard for night watch.According to the complainant, the seven unidentified men arrived at the site in the wee hours and quickly overpowered the guard. After being held captive, the guard could only watch as the group loaded the iron rods into their canter and fled the scene. Once the intruders had disappeared, the guard managed to free himself and alerted Singh via a phone call.Dugri police have launched a probe into the matter. Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Surjeet Singh, the investigating officer, confirmed that a case has been registered under Sections 303(2), 331(4), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).“We are currently scanning CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the vehicle and the accused,” he added.
