T’puram: Kollam native Arun Raj, 31, who had gone missing after leaving home for work, was found floating in the backwaters beneath the Kappil bridge at Varkala on Tuesday morning. Ayiroor Police have registered a case and began a probe.He had been staying with his sister in a rented house at Meenad in Chathannoor.Arun, who worked as a home nurse, left the house on Monday evening to report for duty at a house in Kollam. However, he did not reach his workplace. When his family failed to contact him even late at night, they launched a search and informed Chathannoor Police.On Tuesday morning around 7am, people who had gone for a morning walk spotted the body floating in the backwaters beneath the Kappil bridge on the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam coastal road. Following the alert, Ayiroor Police reached the spot.The body was brought ashore with the assistance of kayaking workers and shifted to Parippally medical college hospital for further procedures. During the subsequent investigation, police established the identity of the deceased. His relatives reached the hospital and identified the body.According to the police, Arun’s relatives told them that he had been suffering from depression. The police said the circumstances leading to his death would be ascertained as part of the investigation.The body will be handed over to the relatives after completion of legal procedures and the postmortem examination, police said.
