Akola: A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a minor relative living nearby in Akola district. The Civil Line Police on Saturday registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Earlier, police faced scrutiny for alleged delay in registering an offence. Police refuted the allegations, stating that due procedure was followed.According to police sources, the girl’s mother recorded her statement on Saturday. The complainant stated that her daughter was assaulted on April 12, 2026. She claimed to have approached the police station soon after the incident but returned as the child was unwell at the time. Police said that the complainant’s visit was recorded in the CCTNS system and that they remained in contact with the family.The survivor has been sent for medical examination. Based on the findings and further inquiry, the accused minor will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and may be sent to a remand home as per legal provisions. Sub-inspector Tanuja Khobragade is conducting investigation.
