New Delhi: The foot overbridge connecting Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station with Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station has now been opened to the public for seamless connectivity. Though the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor was opened on Feb 22, this FOB became operational only last Sunday.Lakhs of people travel daily through the various modes of public transport available at Sarai Kale Khan, where commuters had to brave heavy crowds, chaotic traffic and walk long distances to move from one mode of transport to another,” said an official of the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), which executed Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS project. The official added that this FOB will address these challenges and offer a long-term, safe and efficient solution.Sarai Kale Khan, the originating station of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor, is integrated with major modes of public transport, including metro, railways, ISBT, city bus services and Ring Road connectivity. For better seamless integration with the underground station of Delhi Metro, NCRTC will construct a staircase and install a set of escalators near gate number 3 of the Sarai Kale Khan-Nizamuddin metro station, which will connect directly to this foot-over bridge. “A tender has been recently floated for this work,” said the official.Anil Bhasin, a commuter who used this FOB on Wednesday, said, “Due to the presence of autos, cars and vendors, it was chaotic to pass from there. The condition used to worsen during the rain because of waterlogging. However, this FOB is convenient and saves time.”
