Patna: A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by three youths of the same village in Saran district on Sunday. Police detained one of the accused, while searches are underway to nab the remaining two.The incident took place when the girl student left home to visit a library in the local market area along with a junior boy she knew. According to police, two young men on a bike intercepted them on the way and forcibly took the girl to a secluded area and held the boy accompanying the girl hostage. One of the perpetrators also called another friend to the spot, and the three of them allegedly committed the crime.After the incident, the assailants brandished a knife and fled the spot. A known person later escorted the girl home. The girl’s family subsequently lodged a written complaint at the police station. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Pocso Act and the BNS.Saran SSP Vineet Kumar visited the crime spot on Sunday night and ordered the formation of a special investigation team, headed by SDPO Sadar-II. A Forensic Science Laboratory team also reached the location, collected evidence.The SSP said, “A minor accused has been detained and sent to Chapra Sadar Hospital for medical examination. The girl has also undergone a medical examination, and her statement was recorded before a magistrate on Monday. The police are continuing raids to apprehend the two absconding accused.”A police officer said the three accused are friends and had no prior acquaintance with the girl, though they are suspected to have been observing her while she visited the library. “Initial investigations indicate that the boy, who accompanied the girl, was not involved in the crime,” he added.
