Mysuru: Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa on Saturday defended the installation of traffic signal lights at various junctions in the city, stating that they have been placed based on scientific assessment and future planning requirements.“These signals are installed keeping in mind the future growth of Mysuru. After their installation, traffic issues have come down,” he said.Responding to concerns about long waiting times, the minister said he would instruct officials to review signal timings. “In some places, the two-minute signal duration will be reduced based on public demand,” he noted. He maintained that the signals have not been installed unnecessarily and that the public is not facing major inconvenience due to the new system. The minister said that the CM has also assured that he will direct officials to address public grievances if traffic signal lights have been installed unscientifically in the city. Speaking to reporters, he said that traffic signal lights are installed to improve vehicular movement and scientifically reduce accidents. “Signal lights are meant to regulate traffic flow and reduce accidents. They cannot be installed in proximity without proper planning. I will review the matter with police,” he said.
