Vijayapura: The district experienced mild tremor on Tuesday. Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC) said in its press release that an earthquake of the magnitude 2.6 was recorded at 11.43am. “The epicentre was 2.4 km from Kannur gram panchayat, Vijayapura taluk. As per the seismic intensity map of the quake from the epicentre, the intensity observed was low, and the tremor could be felt up to a radial distance of 30-40 km from the epicentre,” it stated. “This type of earthquake will not create any harm to the local community, as the intensity observed was low, though there might be local vibrations felt. The epicentre falls in Seismic Zone III, and the region is void of any structural discontinuities as per the tectonic map. The community need not panic, as the magnitude and intensity observed are low,” it added.
