Kolkata: Expect warmer days from the coming weekend, when the maximum temperature could touch around 30 degrees. Met officials said there was no significant mercury jump in the next few days, and the temperature rise was gradual from the middle of this week. The minimum temperature in Kolkata, which hovered around the 14 degrees mark in the past two days, reached 15.8 degrees on Monday, still below the normal mark by 1.1 degrees. The maximum temperature saw a slight climb down to 27.2 degrees, 1.7 degrees below the normal mark.“While we do not expect any significant change in the temperature in the next two days, there can be a gradual rise from then on, when the maximum temperature could reach 29 to 30 degrees by the weekend. The minimum temperature could rise gradually and reach between 17 to 18 degrees towards the second half of this week. But despite the gradual rise, it will be around the normal mark for those days,” said meteorologist HR Biswas, head of the Regional Meteorological Centre, Kolkata. This month, both the day and night temperatures remained below the normal mark on eight days out of 10 days.Even as a western disturbance (WD) is passing through north-western India at present, Met officials said this system will have no impact in this region.“While a system like western disturbance does not have any direct impact in our region, it often blocks or retards the pace of the north-westerly wind. But this time, the western disturbance is not powerful enough to influence the wind system that is reaching us,” said Biswas.
