Chandigarh: A speeding Mercedes car tried to mow down two men over a minor argument outside a nightclub in Chandigarh’s Sector 26 on Saturday evening, police said on Sunday after arresting the driver, Akhil, a Faridabad resident. He was soon released on bail.The confrontation began after Alliancepreet Singh of Sector 44 and his friend Amjad of Bapu Dham Colony left a party at the club. As Akhil, who was visiting relatives in Panchkula, reversed his Mercedes, he struck Alliancepreet’s leg. The two exchanged heated words before bystanders intervened, prompting Akhil to drive away.Minutes later, Akhil returned with a friend, having masked his car’s registration numberplates. He then drove directly into Alliancepreet and Amjad, police said.Passersby swarmed the vehicle, throwing stones that shattered the rear windscreen in an attempt to stop the escape. Witnesses captured the incident on their mobile phones. The footage went viral on social media.The injured were taken to a hospital, where doctors treated and discharged both on Sunday. The victims lodged a complaint, leading the police to register a case.
