KRISHNAGIRI: Bus services were affected between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka for three hours on Monday due to a protest by pro-Kannada organisations at the Attibele check-post on the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway demanding immediate construction of a dam across the Cauvery at Mekedatu and condemning the TN govt’s opposition to the proposal.Led by Vatal Nagaraj of the Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha and Manjunath Deva of the Kannada Rakshana Vedike, more than 60 activists gathered at the toll plaza around 10.20am, raising slogans against Tamil Nadu and marching towards the border. The protesters sat on the road, shouting: “The Cauvery belongs to us; the Mekedatu dam must be built immediately.”Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses from Hosur were halted, while Karnataka buses did not cross into Tamil Nadu. Passengers were left stranded for nearly three hours as tension escalated.Karnataka police detained all protesters by 1.30pm, restoring order at the border. Bus services resumed shortly after the detention of the protesters.
