Ahmedabad: A confrontration between a young man and a woman in Usmanpura on Saturday evening escalated into a physical fight involving several others, leading to cross-complaints being filed with Vadaj police. The incident happened near a garden in the area where the 25-year-old man contractual driver for the fire and emergency services was waiting for the woman. In his complaint, the Gomtipur resident stated that he knew the woman from the time their families lived in Shahpur. The two had been communicating on the phone for some time. He had asked her to meet him near the garden and arrived with his friend. The woman, after reaching the spot, allegedly began shouting accusing him of misbehaviour when he tried speaking to her.Several people gathered on hearing the commotion and allegedly began assaulting the man and his friend. The man said they were punched, kicked and belted. He suffered fractures in both arms and injuries to his nose and legs, while his friend had head and ear injuries that needed stitches. They were taken to a govt hospital for treatment.The woman filed a counter-complaint alleging that the man tried to molest her when she arrived at the location. The woman’s father too works for the fire and emergency services. Police said statements of witnesses, and CCTV footage from the area are being examined to determine the sequence of events.
