Hisar: The Haryana Human Rights Commission has summoned the investigating officer with the complete probe report on April 6 in connection with the case of Bhawna, a medical student from Rajasthan’s Alwar who suffered 80% burn injuries in a fire incident at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University nearly nine months ago. Commission member Deep Bhatia said no compromise with the judicial process would be tolerated.According to the complaint filed by the deceased student’s mother, Gayatri Yadav, the incident occurred on April 24, 2025. She alleged that a man identified as Udesh Kumar set her daughter on fire inside her university room. Though an FIR was registered, she claimed that the accused was released by the police and that no effective action was taken so far. Seeking justice, she approached the commission and demanded an impartial investigation.Taking cognisance of the seriousness of the allegations, the commission earlier sought a status report. Following directions issued by Deep Bhatia, the investigation was transferred to the State Crime Branch, Bhondsi, Gurugram.As per the report submitted, statements of the parties were recorded on Dec 12, 2025, the case file was placed before the State Police Complaints Authority in Panchkula on Dec 29, 2025, and the crime scene was inspected on Jan 12, 2026. However, the commission observed that mere procedural formalities would not suffice.Assistant registrar Dr Puneet Arora said the commission directed the officer in-charge of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to appear in person at the next hearing with all original records, documents, and physical evidence related to the case. The matter will be heard on April 6 at the Camp Court, New PWD Rest House, B&R, Gurugram.Deep Bhatia stated that if any negligence, bias, or deliberate laxity is found in the investigation, strict legal action will be initiated against the officials concerned.
