Nagpur: An MCOCA accused along with his accomplice allegedly thrashed a high court lawyer in his office in Jaripatka recently and demanded Rs 2 lakh while threatening to kill him. Roshan Shaikh, out on bail in an MCOCA case, was arrested on Friday and sent to Nagpur Central Jail.As per the complaint filed by Jaswant Khubnani, a practising lawyer who operates from an office near Mahatma Gandhi School in Jaripatka, the incident occurred on July 29. Khubnani was sitting with his friend Faizan Farooq Sheikh (33) when the accused duo allegedly barged into his office.A case was registered against Roshan and his accomplice, Nilesh Gadekar, at Jaripatka police station under relevant BNS sections including extortion, criminal trespass, and assault, with MCOCA provisions. Gadekar, who was a co-accused in a murder case with Roshan, is yet to be arrested.The complainant stated that his friend Nikita Rangari (30) was earlier in a relationship with Roshan. When Roshan refused to marry her, Nikita filed a physical abuse case against him at Sadar police station in February last year, leading to his brief imprisonment after being charged with a rape case.After being released, Roshan allegedly abused, threatened and manhandled Khubnani on July 8 and July 15 this year. Though the accused’s family apologised, tensions persisted.As per police Roshan allegedly used abusive language against Khubnani on July 29 and blamed him for the earlier case. He demanded Rs2 lakh and threatened to kill Khubnani if he didn’t comply. Gadekar allegedly thrashed the complainant, said police.Later, Roshan allegedly threatened the lawyer via WhatsApp video call, reiterated the demand and asked for a meeting point before disconnecting.“Police investigation is under way to trace Gadekar and verify the sequence of events, including prior threats,” said senior inspector of Jaripatka police station, Anil Takshande.
