Nagpur: A history-sheeter with over 12 offences to his name, including a 2015 murder, managed to flee from Gittikhadan police station in the early hours of Saturday while the process was underway to arrest him in a stabbing case. He was nabbed after 14 hours, said police.Earlier, Crime Branch led by senior PI Subhangi Deshmukh had caught Ashish Morris Wilson alias Mental (27), a notorious criminal, from an undisclosed location shortly after midnight on Friday. He was brought to Gittikhadan police station, where he was found in possession of a knife.Wilson had allegedly attacked Sunny Sunil Chandrikapure (31), a driver with NMC and a resident of Sri Nagar, with a knife on July 29 in Panchsheel Vihar area. As per police sources, when Chandrikapure tried to flee, Wilson chased him down and stabbed him again.Chandrikapure raised an alarm, attracting a crowd, following which Wilson escaped from the spot. Chandrikapure lodged a complaint at Gittikhadan police station, leading to registration of a case under relevant sections for attempt to murder and rioting, among others.Wilson managed to flee from the police station, exploiting a momentary lapse in vigilance. Police then launched a search operation. A joint team comprising Crime Branch personnel and officers from Gittikhadan police station laid a trap, leading to his re-arrest from Anand Talkies Chowk within about 14 hours. Police have registered a fresh case against him for the escape.This is the second such escape from police custody in the city within a week. Earlier, Ekka alias Harshal Ramteke (25), a burglary accused arrested by Hudkeshwar police, had fled from custody on July 27 while being taken to the washroom. He was re-arrested in Tiroda.
