Gurgaon: With the sanitation workers’ strike entering its 23rd day and garbage piling up across the city, MCG on Friday floated tenders to hire tractor-trolleys and earthmovers to support sanitation operations in each of the city’s eight zones. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 8.4 crore.The hired machinery will be used for waste collection, loading, unloading and transportation from different locations and wards to municipal solid waste processing and treatment facilities. The scope of work also includes drain cleaning, lifting garbage from roads, and sweeping, collection and transportation of garden waste.Each zone will have tractors with trolleys and earthmovers, along with drivers and operators. Their operational hours will be decided by MCG or its authorised representative based on requirements, officials said.“The contractor will be responsible for providing the machinery and bearing the related expenditure. The equipment may be used for sanitation work, including waste collection and transportation to municipal solid waste processing and treatment facilities,” an MCG official said.The contract also requires the agency to collect waste from existing dustbins from designated points and clean them three times a day. Sanitation work will be carried out every day in residential and commercial areas and green belts along major roads and sectors under MCG.The scope of work can be increased or reduced proportionately depending on requirements, according to the tender conditions.Officials said the hired fleet will be monitored through technology-based systems. Agencies will have to install GPS devices at their own cost and integrate them with the civic body’s integrated command and control centre and GMDA for regular monitoring.The machinery may be inspected by MCG teams or an authorised representative before deployment. Agencies will also be responsible for vehicle insurance and operating the solid waste management (SWM) portal as required under the contract. The Haryana govt’s SWM portal facilitates maintaining sanitation-related records.“We want to strengthen our sanitation machinery and improve waste collection and transportation across the city’s eight zones. The earthmovers will also support drain cleaning and other heavy-duty sanitation operations that cannot be efficiently carried out manually,” the official said.
