Mysuru: Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) president KB Lingaraju on Monday said exports are not merely about shipping goods overseas but also reflect a country’s quality, capability and credibility in global markets.Speaking at a six-day export management training programme organised to boost Karnataka’s export sector and help entrepreneurs compete globally, he said Mysuru has significant export potential in engineering, agriculture, food processing, information technology, textiles, incense sticks, sandalwood products, honey, coffee, spices and Ayurvedic products.Emphasising the need for a stronger export ecosystem, Mysore Industries Association (MIA) general secretary Suresh Kumar Jain said the value of the Indian rupee against the US dollar could improve only through higher exports and reduced dependence on imports. Excessive reliance on imports weakens the rupee, he said, urging industries and consumers to support domestically manufactured products.Referring to imported goods such as solar panels from China, Jain said the govt was encouraging local manufacturing rather than subsidising imports. He also called for greater awareness about the quality and reliability of certain imported products.Highlighting infrastructure development, Jain said the Centre has sanctioned Rs 3 crore and the Karnataka govt Rs 1 crore for the proposed Mysuru Export Centre near the Sheshadripuram Institution on Ring Road. Though the project has been delayed due to rising construction costs linked to global conflicts, it is expected to become operational soon. The export centre will bring all export-related departments under one roof, enabling entrepreneurs to access official guidance, showcase products, hold business meetings and avoid fraudulent agents. The training programme will also guide export documentation, logistics, pricing and strategies to meet international market standards.
