Chennai: The long-awaited Adambakkam MRTS station is expected to open, with reduced platform gap, in a month, Southern Railway officials have said. The station is part of the 4.5km Velachery–St Thomas Mount MRTS extension, which was inaugurated on March 14. But, trains passing through have not been halting at Adambakkam after chief commissioner of railway safety detected a dangerous gap between coaches and the platform on a curve of the track.Officials said ongoing work to rectify this issue is likely to be completed within a month. The extension, delayed by nearly two decades due to land acquisition and construction hurdles, connects Beach directly with St Thomas Mount. It has provided MRTS connectivity in the southern suburbs.Once opened, Adambakkam station will serve residents of Adambakkam, Nanganallur and Madipakkam and improve multimodal connectivity with the upcoming metro nearby.
