KRISHNAGIRI: The Hosur police carried out surprise raids at courier stations in the town for the second day on Monday to check for banned narcotics. They deployed trained sniffer dogs for the operation. The operation was led by Hosur deputy superintendent of police Balakrishnan after intelligence inputs suggested that contraband substances and tablets were being trafficked into the town from neighbouring Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh states through courier services. “Acting on the tip-off, special police teams comprising inspectors and constables inspected several leading courier centres,” the DSP said.“We have received credible information that courier services are being misused for drug trafficking. Our teams are determined to intercept such consignments before they reach the public,” he added. The raids focused on consignments arriving from outside states and packages addressed to suspicious destinations. “Even if nothing is seized, this exercise sends a strong message to those attempting to smuggle contraband into Hosur,” another police officer said.Police didn’t release official confirmation regarding any seizure of drugs during the raids. They instructed employees of courier services to remain vigilant and to alert them if any suspicious individuals attempted to send or collect parcels.
