Chennai: Former DMK minister E V Velu, who returned from Singapore to Chennai, said he had neither committed any corruption nor was he scared of police.Talking to reporters at Chennai airport, Velu dismissed allegations that he travelled abroad to evade police action. Velu said he would face the police inquiry and prove that the charges against him were false.“DMK and its cadre do not hide or run away from the police. I will cooperate with the investigation. Justice is on my side because I have not committed any crime. We have the courage to face political challenges,” Velu said. Directorate of vigilance and anti corruption had registered an FIR against Velu, alleging that funds were released for road projects without completing them, causing a loss to the exchequer. Searches were also conducted at his residence last month. Velu, meanwhile, had left for Singapore inviting criticism from chief minister C Joseph Vijay that former ministers were `running away abroad.’Velu refuted the charges saying he went for treatment and his travel was planned even before the FIR was registered. “I applied for a Singapore visa on June 15 and received it on June 17. On the same day, I booked my ticket for June 25. However, while I was preparing to leave on the evening of June 25, officials conducted searches at my properties that morning. Because of the searches, I rescheduled my flight to June 26 and travelled to Singapore the next day,” Velu said.Asked whether he was being targeted for criticising the TVK govt in the assembly, Velu said it remained to be seen whether the ruling party was uncomfortable with questions being raised in the House or with him speaking in the assembly.
